One thing I said when we first started the business is that we would be focussing our marketing spend “below the line” and use direct communication and word of mouth to drive the business forward.

Well that appears to be working – and we’re posting some fantastic growth figures (albeit off of a base that wasn’t ‘woohoo’ material to start with. Hell next week alone we’ve got 400 people booked in across the 7 days to come and play paintball with us at TAG.

And that’s good numbers on a New Zealand standard.

So we’ve decided to mix it up a little, and next year we will be exibiting at the Armageddon Expo in Wellington. It should be a bit of a laugh – we’re looking forward to it a lot – and the ideas of what we can do with our stand are flowing thick and fast.

I’ll try and post up a couple of times about what we’re doing in that space – but we’ve only got around 4 months to get it finalised. The show is April 2/4 2010 – so book sometime out and see what’s happening.

A weekend or so ago I was watching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang with the kids. It’s a great classic movie, and I thought that the lads would like it. They did – glad to see that it keeps entertaining the generations.

But I noticed something now as an adult that I never noticed as a kid. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a spy flick – and more importantly it’s a James Bond spy flick. Here is the proof:

Written by Ian Fleming

Produced by Albert Brocoli

Has an evil German badguy – Baron Bomburst

Has Desmond Llewelyn in the movie – the original ‘Q’ from the 007 flicks for those who don’t recognise the name.

Typical ‘Bond Girl’ named heroine – Truly Scrumptious

Gadgets galore – hell the car flies, floats and does all sorts of things in between.

Now maybe I’m just a bit behind the times – but noticing all those things made me laugh. It was, however, a bit hard to explain why I was laughing at the credits to the kids.

And with the public focus on social networks such as twitter at the moment this one – in my opinion – hits the nail on the head. And you know what’s funny? Both the writer (@sohmer) and the artist (@lartist) are on twitter themselves

Saw this online today – and had to laugh out loud at the fools that would spend money hunting Mongolian Death Worms

ARMED with explosives, two men are heading to Mongolia’s Gobi Desert to find the fabled acid-spitting and lightning-throwing Mongolian death worm.

The worm has never been documented but some Mongolians are convinced it exists. They call it Allghoi Khorkhoi, or “intestine worm” because it resembles a cow’s intestine and is about 1.5m long.

The worm apparently jumps out of the sand and kills people by spitting concentrated acid or shooting lightning from its rectum over long distances, NZPA reports.

I would have kept laughing as well – except I then read it was a New Zealand journo heading over there to do it.

New Zealand journalist David Farrier, who is organising the expedition, and cameraman Christie Douglas, leave this week to spend two weeks in the Gobi, trying to verify the worm’s existence and making a documentary about it.

For the love of god man – have you no national pride?
